Madison makes a strong case for itself before you even order a bite, with the Ohio River rolling past downtown and Clifty Falls just up the road. That backdrop frames a dining stretch that runs from the polished steaks at Brooklyn and The Butcher to the peanut butter pie at B-Bop’s, which alone justifies circling the block for parking.

I logged serious hours at Analog Coffee & Records and still found room for a caramel cinnamon roll from Horst’s. The tasting room at Thomas Family Winery taught me more about local grapes than I expected, and Cocoa Safari nearly cost me my luggage allowance.

Every stop felt like a conversation with the town itself. Start with the list and plan your walk.
